Hello! My name is Arlene Wang, an illustrator from a small coastal city in southern China. I hold both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Oil Painting from the China Academy of Art, and I am currently based in Savannah, Georgia, USA.
I am drawn to a vintage, warm illustration style. I love studying architectural structures and am fascinated by the shifting interplay of light and shadow in nature. I enjoy exploring the relationships and stories between people, between animals and humans, and between people, objects, and spaces. As a result, elements such as architecture, nature, people, and animals often appear in my work.
For me, painting is a way to observe and experience the world, as well as a medium to express emotions and ideas. It is also my personal way of recording, preserving, and writing memories and stories.
The word “illustration” comes from the Latin illustrare, which originally meant “to illuminate” or “to bring light.” I hope my illustrations can offer warmth and light to others, and that the stories I tell through my work can bring smiles, emotion, and a sense of connection.
In my daily life, I’m drawn to quiet moments and the presence of nature. I enjoy reading, writing, drawing, listening to music, and watching films and series. I often spend time walking or hiking with my dog. His name is Nyan-Gao(Rice Cake)—a calm and gentle soul who keeps me company.
